Sewer Line
Smoke Testing
will take place
Tuesday, October 17th, 2023

The Mapleton Area Joint Municipal Authority will be
conducting a smoke test of the sewer lines this week.
Testing will occur starting at 8AM on October 17.

This study will involve opening manholes and filling
the sewer lines with non-toxic smoke.
The purpose of this test is to locate breaks and defects
in the sewer system.

The smoke should not enter your home or building unless
the building has defective plumbing or your drain traps
are dry or leaking.

We recommend that you flush all toilets and run water
down all sinks, tubs, and laundry drains the evening prior
to the testing to ensure that all drain traps contain enough
water to prevent smoke from entering the building.
If smoke does enter your home or building, you should open
windows and doors to dissipate the smoke.
You should also tell thetesting crew (who will be working
nearby) or call the authority at 814-542-3293 if smoke
enters your homeor building.

The local fire department and 911 have been notified
of the testing, and will be updated throughout the day
regarding the testing locations.

During this test, it is normal for smoke to appear at the sewer vent located on the roof of most homes and buildings.
Appearance of this smoke is not
cause for alarm.

Streets affected - Glendower, Hill, and parts of Sugar.
